We are very fortunate in Devon to have a huge number of great pubs, serving fine ales, and great food. These are some of our favourites (closest to Mazzard Farm listed first – click on names for web links):
Please note: we always recommend to book when planning to dine!
The Volunteer Inn, Ottery St Mary – Our local. Lovely community pub. Fine ales, great food, lovely atmosphere
The Lamb & Flag, Ottery St. Mary – Another great local. Very recently done up in its entirety. Very stylish and welcoming. Great food too. Families please note: food served from 5.30 pm on most days!
The Golden Lion, Tipton St John – a real foodie pub. French owner, offering a varied menu. Great outside dining if the weather cooperates
The Night Jar Inn, Aylesbeare – brand new, very well designed and stylish pub with great local beers, and a very good food offering
The Bowd Inn, Sidmouth – good food and drink. One of the largest pubs around, with all day dining, inside or outside. Good children’s play area too.
Dukes, Sidmouth – technically maybe more restaurant than pub, but they pull a very good pint, and their seafront location (incl. large terrace) makes inclusion in this list more than justified.
The Holt, Honiton – owned by the family behind Otter Brewery. Great food and drink. Tapas menu in the bar!
The Thirsty Farmer, Whimple – fantastic village pub. Great for dining, or simply have a drink. Nice outside space too. Tapas menu available
The Passage House Inn, Topsham – on a sunny day, having a drink, and maybe something to eat, on the Topsham quayside cannot be beaten.
The Grapevine, Exmouth – Great food and drink, and frequent live music. Pub has its own microbrewery!
The Masons Arms, Branscombe – fantastic place to have a drink, or something to eat, after a nice beach / coastal walk in/to/near Branscombe. Massive log fire makes it great on a grey day too!
The Anchor Inn, Beer – views to die for! Beer garden overlooking Beer beach and the Jurassic Coast / English Channel. Good food & drink
The Prospect Inn, Exeter – in Exeter and after a bit of relaxation? The Prospect Inn, situated on the old quayside offers a nice stop to rest. Outside tables allow you to take in the hustle and bustle of the quay, whilst enjoying a good glass of [complete as you see fit].
And a little further afield….
The Cleave, Lustleigh (Dartmoor) – just FABULOUS! Everything about it: the people who run it, the food, drink, location. Worth a de-tour when on Dartmoor!
The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor (Dartmoor) – another Dartmoor gem! Great food and drink, beautiful beer garden, a stream. Sort of place you don’t want to leave (don’t say we didn’t warn you!).
This list could have been so much longer! Come across a pub locally you feel we should list? Tell us.
And when you’re in one of these great pubs, do try out our local beer, from Otter Brewery. Otter Ale or Bitter for a normal pint, or Otter Bright or Amber if you’re feeling adventurous. Tarka Otter if you prefer lager.
Cheers / Proost / Aclamaciones / Santé / Prost / Sláinte!
