Stepping back in time

The Village of Beer

The fishing village of Beer is a real gem. Very pretty street leading town to the working beach. Sip a drink at the Anchor Inn pub with beer garden overlooking the sea, or have a drink or snack at one of the beach restaurants.

When in Beer, check out Pecorama, great place to visit even if you don’t give much about trains. You’ll have a great time.

Just 8 minutes' walk from us.

Coldharbour Field Kitchen

Very few people staying at Mazzard Farm will not pop by at Coldharbour Field Kitchen, a short walk from us. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or just a coffee and cake, you will not be disappointed. Great spot, wonderful views, lovely vibe.

Best at low tide

Jacob's Ladder Beach

Our favourite swimming beach, especially at low tide. But even if you're not fancying a swim, good to walk on to, possibly combining it with a mooch in Sidmouth.

Relaxing boat trip

Stuart Line Cruises

Provided it is not too windy (read: choppy sea), the comfortable Jurassic Coast or River Exe cruises can be enjoyed under cover (from Exmouth). *Photo from Stuart Line Cruises website.

So many to pick from

The Local Pubs

We are so fortunate to be surrounded by some great pubs. Four in Ottery St Mary alone, but also some real gems in the countryside or on the coast. Check the link below for more on the best ones.

Gentle cycling

River Exe Estuary Cycle Trail

Besides this route being gorgeous, taking you along villages such as Lympstone and Exton, on to either Exeter, Topsham or Exmouth, what makes this different is a.) dedicated cycle paths with NO cars, and b.) a totally flat route. It follows the railway line between Exeter and Exmouth, and offers great views along the estuary. Oh, and plenty of excuses for food and drink......

So many unique flavours

A Taste of Sidmouth Ice cream

I admit: one half of Mazzard Farm is ice cream mad! But that also means I know when I see a good one. Taste of Sidmouth makes its own ice cream (gelato based!) and is possibly the best ice cream maker outside Italy. Go try and prove me wrong. Oh, and my favourite is Black Cherry!

Picturesque heritage

Seaton Tramway

The tramway between Seaton and Colyton follows the old, Beeching axed route towards the mainline, and uses a whole array of usually double decker and open top trams. En route you get a nature reserve thrown in too. Great day out

Dartmoor National Park

At just half an hour's drive from Mazzard Farm, Dartmoor offers a great day out. Hiking, photography, cycling; just some of the activities Dartmoor is great for. Check out the wild ponies and sheep, or just have a drive around. Some cracking pubs too!

Great estuary town

Topsham

Last but by no means least, Topsham is a beautiful little town on the Exe estuary. Just south of Exeter, it is a great place to shop (plenty of individual boutiques) and to eat or drink. Or just sit near the waterfront and see the world go by. Darts Farm is close by too!
